What is Pickleball?

What do you get when you have a few families looking for an activity, some broken sports equipment, and a family dog named Pickles?  Of course, the creation of a sport called PICKLEBALL!

Why play Pickleball?

  • It is easy to play for all ages
  • All physical ability levels can play
  • The equipment cost is minumium
  • It can be played with two, three or four people.

Which makes for a fun activity that can be played as leisure activity or a very competitive sport.  The other great thing is that you do not have to be a naturally talented athlete or in tip top physical shape to play pickleball.

Pickleball is a combination of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. The court is about half the size of tennis court so the need to run is cut down especially when you play doubles.  The ball looks like a baseball sized wiffleball and the paddle looks like an oversized ping pong paddle.

Here is the size of an official pickleball ball.  The ball is next to a snack size pudding cup.The plastic ball is just a bit bigger than a tennis ball.  It is hollow with holes in the it.

There are a few different types of Pickleball paddles.  The Pro-Lite Enforcer is shown in the picture.  For those of you who have not seen a paddle in person, I thought a size comparison would be helpful.  So I put the Pickleball paddle is laid on a dinner plate so you can see the size of a pickleball paddle. Most of the paddles weigh about 8 ounces so it is easy to move around on the court and does not require lots of arm strength.
Here are few details about the net and drawing out the court, but all you need is a few items to get your started on this really fun sport.
